Qualifying for Construction/Contract Bonds (Over $250,000)

Qualifying for bonds is more like obtaining credit from a bank than buying insurance.  When obtaining credit at a bank, the bank will only provide a loan if it determines that the party receiving the loan is able to pay it back in full with interest.  Like the bank, the surety company wants to know the applicant well before extending any credit.  Most contractors will find that they need to spend a lot of time and effort establishing their relationship with the surety company.  Since the surety is guaranteeing the contractor's performance, it must gather and carefully analyze information about the owners and their company before the surety will agree to provide any bonds.  Below is a list of the information that is normally required to begin qualifying a contractor for surety credit:

1. Contractor Questionnaire
2. Company Financial Statements (CPA Prepared)
3. Work In Progress Schedule
4. Personal Financial Statements of all the owners
5. Bank letter detailing balances and lines of credit
6. Insurance Certificate
7. Reference Letters
8. Resumes on key personel

Small Contractor Short Form Contract Bonds (Up to $250,000)

For small ($250,000 or less) contract bonds (bid/performance) we have a program that allows small contractors or infrequent bond user to obtain bonds will very little paper work. No financial statements are required! The underwriting is based mainly on the owner's and business credit. The application is one page and we can have it underwriten within 24-48 hours.
